I am a firm believer that your health is the most vital component of living a long and fulfilling life.
As soon as you make the choice to take control of your health, your overall life prosperity improves.
Having a healthy, functioning body, that is capable of fighting off disease, sickness, carry you through tough environments and withstand the pressures that life throws at you is the goal right?
So what do I really mean when I talk about health? For me, your health is taking care of everything; body, mind and soul.
There is so much information out there when it comes to what is healthy and what isn’t that it can be overwhelming. There is a magnitude of different diets, and I’ve certainly tried my hand at a fair few. But it doesn’t have to be so hard.
Start with the basics. Start with implementing one change. Get your 2 fruit and 5 veg daily, go for a 30 minute walk three times a week, aim for 8 glasses of water a day. These are simple healthy practices that have been embedded into our brain from an early age, so when did we decide to ignore them?
From my experience, the moment you make the choice to improve one aspect of your life, a flow on effect occurs. I’ve seen in it my friends, family and myself.
When I workout and am exercising regularly, the last thing I want to do is eat poorly and counteract the exercise I just performed. Rather, I crave healthy, nutritious food that is going to fuel my body and workouts. These combined, makes me feel better, sleep better and have more energy. Positive endorphins are running through my body, I feel good about myself and therefore I am a more positive and happy person. This positivity flows on through other aspects of my life, and I perform better at work, I am not erratic or emotional in stressful situations and overall I am living a life that is much more fulfilling and enjoyable.
As I mentioned at the beginning, it is only YOU who can make the choice to take control of YOUR health. In this very moment, you can choose to better your life or contribute to our increasing epidemic of obesity, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc. You can choose to snooze your alarm or you can choose to get up 30 minutes early and exercise. You can choose to order takeout again for dinner, or you can choose to eat a well-balanced nutritious meal. You can choose to ‘Start on Monday’ or you can choose to start now.
Starting out on a fitness journey is never going to be easy, and I certainly still struggle with it sometimes, but at the end of the day, your health and overall happiness are 110% worth it. The choice is yours.
